The pages of this site capture the many different facets of who I am as a designer. I am fascinated with space, and how people interact in interior and exterior spaces. I have studied and consulted on the building codes that are applied to structures which strive to make these environments safe. Designing within these constraints forces the Designer to be more creative. But they can also stifle creativity, and human dignity along with it. Design needs to be a part of the discussion from the very beginning, for everyone no matter their means. “Because once you see what design can do, it can’t be unseen.” Architect & Author, John Cary. Photography and Sculpture give me the ability to express myself without words. They allow me to show my strength and my vulnerabilities, on my terms. JH

Distilling Design is a podcast that discusses what design is, the design process, and its intrinsic value. How each project, if designed well, will ultimately be more successful as a structural environment for its users. The act of design is in constant change, fluctuation, and deviation. Good design does not equate to frills or aesthetics, but instead to subconscious feelings of pleasure and contentment. It is a notion that all people instinctively feel when interacting with something that has been designed well, whether that be a physical entity or otherwise.
