The feeling of serenity experienced when interacting with something that has been beautifully designed is universal to people, even if we don’t understand why. Distilling Design is a podcast that discusses what design is, the design process, and its intrinsic value. How each project, if designed well, will ultimately be more successful as a structural environment for its users.

Season 1 - Distilling Design

A conversation with Jennifer Harris & Matthew Feitelberg of Jennifer Harris Design.

Jennifer Harris - I am fascinated with space, and how people interact in interior and exterior spaces. I have studied and consulted on the building codes that are applied to structures which strive to make these environments safe. Designing within these constraints forces Designers to be more creative. But today’s building codes often stifle creativity, and human dignity along with it. Design needs to be a part of the discussion from the very beginning, for everyone no matter their means. “Because once you see what design can do, it can’t be unseen.” Architect & Author, John Cary.

A conversation with Jennifer Harris & Matthew Feitelberg of Jennifer Harris Design.

Matthew Feitelberg - Good design is a right, not a privilege. This should be the guiding principle of all those who enter the design world. Design can be an outlet for our innermost desires, temptations, and needs, yet frequently these are discarded in favour of quick returns and fast profits. Since I began my career in architecture I have strived to find a balance between the need for quality design and practicality. Good design can be felt in your heart; it is a feeling that envelops and permeates the soul, and it is my goal that everyone should understand what that feels like.

Vanessa Eckstein - Founder & Creative Director of Blok Design & Fors Studio. Vanessa discusses her design process, her approach to life, and how she sees the world around her.
